Vote for Change 2.0
Back in 2004, a number of music’s biggest heavy hitters got together to express their Presidental choice in the form of music. While the election didn’t turn out the way it was hoped, the Bruce Springsteen, R.E.M, and Dave Matthews band led Vote for Change Tour of 40 dates was viewed as a success, raising more than $10 million for America Coming Together.
Thus it was a bit surprising, especially considering the message advocated by Presidential Democratic candidate Barack Obama, that the summer lacked a similiar type of tour. While a full-fledged extravaganza is still unexpected, earlier today, Obama fans did get word of at least one “Vote for Change” redux in the coming months.
On October 16th, Springsteen, Billy Joel, and “other friends,” will team up at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom for a “Change Rocks” concert to benefit the Obama Victory Fund. Ticket prices are a bit steep, but all proceeds do go to the causes. Plus, you get the added benefit of checking out this year’s Super Bowl half-time performer in a more intimate of setting.
Of course, this is just the latest example of music’s involvement in the upcoming election. Between Barackrock.org and McCain’s playlist, some of our favorite sounds have never been too far from the campaign trail.
Props to Running rooster for “The Boss and the new O-Street Band”…
