Phish set to reunite in 2009

Phish set to reunite in 2009

Between the reunion dreams that have crossed our minds since The Police capped off its comeback and My Bloody Valentine announced they are just getting started, most have been dashed by heartbreak or confusion. Well, that is everything except perhaps the biggest.

Since reuniting for the first time in over four years at the Jammy Awards back in May, Phish has made it no secret that its at least entertaining the idea of a reunion. First came the reports that the New York outfit would begin recording a new album in 2009. Then, well, we all remember Rothbury, don’t we? By September, when that impromteau wedding band performance took place, most seemed more fascinated by the prospects of Phish performing to a crowd lacking the “0’s” in size than the actual reality of that all four members of the band were on stage at the same time.

After all, by then, the question was more of when rather if…

Well, today Trey Anastasio and company have an answer. Phish will return to the stage begining March 6, 2009 for a three-date stint at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia, its first shows, according to the fine “Phisnatics” at Hidden Track, in 4 years, 6 months, and 19 days. For those into history, the Hampton Coliseum was the site of the band’s epic 1999 Hampton Comes Alive performances.

The venue’s 13,800 (x3) (still, small if you go by Phish numbers) will be available begining October 18th via ticketmaster.com. The band is also currently taking ticket requests.

The three shows will foreshadow many more to come as the band intends to announce initial dates early next year.

  1. to j starr’s question…. phish has a long history of doing their own festivals (clifford ball, it, great went, oswego, big cypress, coventry, etc)

i personally dont see any reason they would do any of the major festivals (when they draw 75,000 to their own festival, with no other bands). maybe summer tour via the usual suspects in terms of ampitheatres and a fest? who knows. overseas dates?

i’m getting excited just typing this.

  2. CoS:
Got any idea if we’ll see them at festivals or arenas or both or what their touring trends used to be?
    Tennessee for Bon, eh?
