CMJ 2008 adds more names to the bill

Later this month, the CMJ Music Marathon will return to the New York City for another mind-numbing extravaganza, showcasing the best of both new and old in today’s music industry. Since unveiling its initial lineup in August, the annual five-day festival, scheduled to take place between October 21 and 25, has been constantly adding to the bill, offering those willing to shell out a pretty penny, an increasingly unbearable number of shows to choose from.

Coheed & Cambria, who will also be busy with its Neverender activties during the week, Crystal Antlers, De Novo Dahl, and Saves The Day highlight the latest wave of rather unique confirmations now scheduled to join in on the fun. We say “unique” because included in the list of your standard industry heavy hitters and indie favorties are also a few noteworthy “out of the box” names worth considering..

Take funk legend George Clinton for example, who hot off the release off brand new studio album, will look to introduce CMJ to his Gangsters of Love (with special guests RZA, Shavo Odadjian, and El Debarge) at B.B. King’s on October 23rd. The following evening, New Jersey’s Southside Johnny will offer the sounds of his brand new Tom Waits’ tribute album, Grapefruit Moon, with the help of the La Bamba’s Big Band at the Nokia Theatre on October 24th.

If that doesn’t catch your eye, surely you’ll find something among the list of the latest noteworthy confirmations currently found on our CMJ Outlook page. Everything else, except the schedule (we’re still waiting…) can be found on the CMJ site itself. In the meantime, we’ll be sharpening our pencils, go over our subway maps, and stocking up on the coffee so that we can provide you with some damn fine coverage when the week of October 21, 2008 finally rolls around.
