Dirty Pretty Things are no more
Who would have figured Pete Doherty would outlive fellow Libertines bandmate Carl Barât. At least, when it comes to their respective post-Libertines music outfits. But after three years, two albums, and the ton of high-profile coverage that comes with being an NME approved, British outfit, Barât and the rest of Dirty Pretty Things have decided to bid the world a farewell.
In a posting appearing on the band’s website, the four-piece outfit officially proclaimed that effective immediately, the band known as Dirty Pretty Things is no more.
It is with some sadness we announce the farewell of the Dirty Pretty Things. It’s been a glorious three years which we all would gladly live out again, but it is time for us to try new things. (not
The Libertines). We are reluctant to give up touring but will give the last waltz everything. We have and are determined to go out as we came in, after which we all have other ventures to be getting on with and splendid future plans. Heartfelt thanks to all who made it what it was, much love and we’ll see you on the road.
The announcement comes just days before the band is scheduled to kick off a month long, European tour. However, as of today, the dates still remain a go, providing few last opportunities to savor the band up close and personal before it heads off to eternal music purgatory. After that fans will be left with CDs and dreams for a Libertines reunion more CDs to quench their alternative, post punk taste buds.
Dirty Pretty Things only made one official U.S. appearance, a six date tour in 2006. The band released its latest studio album, Romance at Short Notice in June.
In case you’re wondering about the status of Pete Doherty and Babyshambles, though not sure why you would since “the new things” don’t include “The Libertines,” as of today, things appear fine. In fact, Pete and Co. are out with a brand new music video for a previously unreleased track entitled “gracewasteland/s”. And yes, that is Kate Moss.
Then again, later this evening, Doherty is set to perform a solo gig at London’s Hackney Empire, the very place where the current Babyshambles frontman reunited with Barât last April. But we’ll let you come up with the conspiracy theories…
Instead, we’ll just leave you with “Hippy’s Son”, the last track officially released by Dirty Pretty Things.
