Fucked Up lives up to name, plans 12 hour concert

Remember those old radio show gimmicks where people would try to out do another by seeing who could hold onto a brand new Toyota Camry the longest? Some 14 hours and a few unfortunate events later, one last person would be standing, or at least had some part of their body touching the car. By then, the appeal of the spectacle wore off, but hey, someone did get a brand new car!

Fucked Up will soon offer a test of endurance of its own, only this one shouldn’t end with people questioning why they just wasted 12 hours of their life battling for a Camry. Hot off the release of its latest studio endeavor, The Chemistry Of Common Life, the Toronto based outfit has announced plans for a full-fledged world tour, which will include one particular lengthy show. At 2:00 p.m. EST on October 14th, the five-piece outfit will kick off a free show at New York City’s Rogan Store. If all goes at planned, the band will exit the state at 2:00 a.m. EST the following day.

Yes, folks. That’s no typo. In the midst of a North American tour that will see the group play 15 straight nights, Fucked Up has decided to take its one schedule day off and turn it into a 12 hour performance. Talk about [insert band name here]!

To accomplish the task, the band plans to enlist the help of many friends, including the Vivian Girls, John Joseph, Matt Sweeney, Chain Gang, Mobb Deep, Ryan Sawyer from Tall Firs, Jeff Jensen, David Cross, John Cale, K-Taro, Chris Doherty, E.K., DJ Chris, DJ Anarki, Michael Gira, members of the Australian Scapa Flow, Jeanne Bovet, Gods & Queens, Akon, The Edge, Ben Blackwell, Russell Simins, the Boogie, and some megastars [they] can’t announce yet.

If this is something that tickles your fancy, head down to Rogan on the 14th. You’ll even get a free limited-edition 7? of “Royal Swan” and some free alcohol for your commitment. Of course, the band will be playing nearly everywhere in the coming months so you do have an excuse if you’d rather maintain your sanity.
