Animal Collective is up to something “fishy”

If one were to head over to myanimalhome.net at this very second, one would stumble on to what is pretty much the most confusing website ever. While words can’t really sum up what exactly appears, other than the fact that there is video of a hissing fish backed by some hard-to-read text, it does appear the website has something to do with “Animal Collective,” “Merriweather Post Pavilion,” “January,” and “Nate Young.”

What we do know is that Animal Collective is a band (duh!), Merriweather is a 16,500 seat venue just outside Baltimore, Maryland, January is the first month of the year, and Nate Young, who apparently created the talking fish, is a member of the band Wolf Eyes.

So at first glance, one could conclude that the website is hyping some sort of upcoming Animal Collective show at Merriweather in January with perhaps Wolf Eyes providing support?

Not so fast. After all, the whole thing does sound kind of “fishy.” Besides the obvious fact that Merriweather is probably much too big for the four-piece outfit, the outdoor venue does not hold any shows in the winter season. So throw the concert idea out the window. Add this with the band’s recent comments to Pitchfork about upcoming material, and there does seem a chance that the whole thing may in fact be referencing AC’s ninth studio album. At least, that’s what the fans are thinking.

Then again, there’s also a good chance I just wasted 45 minutes writing about nothing. So rather than potentially waste more time, lets just play the waiting game for now…
