Radiohead leads Featured Artist Coalition for artist rights
If you’ve been awake for the past few years, you’ll know that the music industry has undergone quite a transition and is continually evolving and advancing in new and different ways. The digital age of music is upon us, and things have gotten a bit heated as a result. Remember that time Robert Smith hated iTunes? Licensing is all out of wack, and musicians have trouble making money in the ways that worked in the past. Well, in an effort to battle the beast and its resulting licensing issues, a few UK artists have signed up for the Featured Artist Coalition. Among them are Radiohead, Billy Bragg, David Gilmour, Gang of Four, and The Verve. The coalition aims to “campaign for the protection of performers’ and musicians’ rights,” and claims it will “give artists the voice they need to argue for greater control over their music.” Sure hope so.
A full list of the coalitions goals can be viewed here. Fight the power.

Now if we can get them to do a Featured Artist Coalition Music Festival and then we’d be talking…
Best call ever…. and it might even happen before this supposed Zeppelin reunion!
I have been saying since ipods first came out, that only people who will loose out in the digital music explosion are the artists. Especially the lesser known ones. that is why its so important for fans to support there favorite bands, by going to shows, purchasing merchandise from bands and their official representives, and buying their music.
