Islands frontman dabbles in Reefer, iTunes

Nicholas Thorburn is a busy man these days. Since going the Arm’s Way with Islands earlier this year, the 27-year-old frontman has spent the last few months dabbling in a brand new project. The result of some post-SXSW drunken argument discussions a few years back, Reefer is the name of this project, a collaboration between Thorburn and Los Angeles based hip-hop producer/engineer Daddy Kev.

In between all their other duties, the duo finally managed to get together earlier this year - in Hawaii of all places - to put this collaboration on record. On October 14th, they will unveil the final project, their self-titled, 10 song debut. Featuring “six sun-dripped songs and three interludes, plus remixes from Dntel and Flying Lotus,” the album is apparently heavy in pop melodies, no doubt a result of the oh so unpleasant recording location.

Unfortunately, Thorburn can’t take much time to celebrate the release. Between his main outfit’s current touring commitments and a brand new live EP for iTunes, the months ahead will prove particularly busy. But hey, we’re not complaining…
