Animal Collective turns fish into ninth studio album
Updated: 5:30 p.m.
Hopefully you haven’t book those flights to Baltimore just yet. As it turns out, the cryptic website launched by those crazy Animal Collective kids earlier this week isn’t being used to advertise an upcoming show at the Merriweather Post Pavilion next year, but rather to provide hints for the band’s upcoming ninth studio album, entitled, yes you got it, Merriweather Post Pavilion, which is due out sometime in January of 2009 via Domino Records.
Of course, the latter always made the most sense, but it wasn’t until AC recently added a second page to myanimalhome.net with a new video offering up the album’s tracklist (see below), that we knew for sure.
Out of the announced 11 song tracklist, the Baltimore outfit has already debuted a few of these selections in the live setting over the last couple months, including “In Flowers” and “Brother Sport”. There seems to be some relabeling here, as one track, “Bearhug”, a song Animal Collective has been playing a lot recently, is now retitled “Summertime Blues.” I guess it’s all in the name…
“In Flowers” (Live)
“Brother Sport” (Live)
Add all this with Panda Bear’s new remix of the Notwist’s “Boneless” and the group’s upcoming dates and Animal Collective fans should have no problems finding some funky noise rock to quench their thirsts…
Update: Pitchfork reports Merriweather Post Pavilion will be released in CD and digital formats as well as a double LP.
Merriweather Post Pavilion Tracklist:
“01. In the Flowers”
02. “My Girls”
03. “Also Frightened”
04. “Summertime Clothes”
05. “Daily Routine”
06. “Bluish”
07. “Guys Eyes”
08. “Taste”
09. “Lion in a Coma”
10. “No More Runnin”
11. “Brothersport”

Bearhug is Summertime Clothes.
I so want a tour.
Thanks for the heads up, flek!
AHHHHH SO EXCITED
I dunno guys, Coachella was mind-blowing, life-changing, and practically trance-inducing, I feel pretty satisfied with that show. But… if they do tour soon… I imagine myself camping out for 12 hours to get front row hahaha.
If they play after the album’s released, does that mean it will be primarily even NEWER material? Or just more MPP stuff? Cause this album is really shaping up to be a career-definer based on their performances thus far.
No problem man, but you cocked up again!
