M. Ward doesn’t like taking breaks
M. Ward is the type of musician that leaves you in awe, and we’re not talking about the California native’s flourishing career, which is awesome enough in itself. No, it’s Ward’s calender that may be the singer/songwriter’s most impressive attribute.
Between the guest spots with Bright Eyes, release of his To Go Home EP, and that little project with Zooey Deschanel that resulted in a full-length studio album and lots of touring, Ward hasn’t had much time to
catch his breath over the last 18 months. Nor does it appear he has any attention during the next 18.
In a recent interview with Paste, Ward confirmed that he has in fact finished his long-awaited sixth studio album. Entitled Hold Time, the follow up to 2006’s and “greatest thing Deschanel’s ever heard” will see the fomer Presidential candidate dabble in lots of “really big and heavy sounds” when it is release in February of 2009. Add in plans for another volume of She & Him tunes and that high-profile collaboration with the “Monsters of Folk” and Ward will probably be hard pressed to find much free time at all in the coming months.
As far as the M. Ward/Conor Oberst/Jim James album currently in the works, Ward says it’s progressing “very slowly but very surely. I imagine it’ll be out in 2010 or 2011 at the glacial pace that we’re getting the chance to work together. But I believe in the power of the passing of time to give you a clear vision of what’s going to last and what was created in the whimsy of the moment.”
