Björk and Yorke team up for Iceland!
Word has it that ever so eclectic Björk and Radiohead’s charming front man Thom Yorke, will be hooking up once again. Not in a physical relationship sense of course - to the obvious disappointment of tabloids finally looking to tap into the indie demographic - but for another star studded, rhyming approved (Yorke = Björk) musical collaboration of epic proportions.
The duo has reportedly gotten together, in some form or another, for a new single, entitled “Nattura”, designed to raise awareness for Icelandic’s environment. Yorke is set to do the backing vocals on the song, as he did similarly on “I’ve Seen It All” with Björk in 2000 for the movie Dancer in the Dark.
“Nattura” got its name from a non-profit organization called Nattura.info, devoted to protecting Iceland’s
environment, which Björk feels quite strongly about seeing that she has already played a benefit concert on their behalf with Icelandic group Sigur Rós, this past summer. Essentially, “Nattura” was intended to signify a cry for help in taking back Iceland’s natural resources and wilderness.
Although the single is expected to drop on October 20th through One Little Indian, Billboard claims that Radiohead’s management has not yet confirmed the collaboration. According to Yorke’s management, he has not recorded any new material with Björk, although it is possible that his vocals were sampled or taped previously. Hopefully, we’ll be seeing this single as expected, but it could take a bit longer to be released if things keep up at this pace.
“When I said that Iceland’s image was important for Icelanders who are working abroad, I was not thinking about myself or Sigur Rós. I’m not worried about us. I have in mind all the other export goods such as sky, water, fish, bio lamb meat, tourism, geothermal experience; even our president, the honorable Olafur Ragnar Grímsson, has started giving lectures abroad about Iceland’s green energy. And not to mention what could happen if we do manage to stay green. In my opinion, there are so much more possibilities for us to survive if we do so.”
