Gorillaz aims for March release?

Despite confirming a planned follow up to Gorillaz’s 2005 album, Demon Days, last month, the creative duo of Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett has remained fairly hush hush on specifics, only revealing that the virtual music project’s return has been green lighted by the record company.

While one factor for this is the collaborators’ self-described “obtuse and quite abstract” nature and “go with our gut” decision making, another reason is probably the fact that at the time of the initial revelation, Albarn and Hewlett hadn’t actually begun working on the record yet. That will all change begining in January when the duo, freed from their obligations with Monkey: Journey to the West, will officially begin work on a guest-heavy, Gorillaz return.

“I want to work with an incredibly eclectic, surprising cast of people,” says Albarn. “But the nice thing after having done Demon Days is that there aren’t a lot of people who say, `No, I don’t want to do that.’ So we’ve got a great choice. It’s just up to us to use that wisely.”

“I’d like to get Bruce Willis involved in this one,” offers Hewlett.

“Involved in whatever way we can have him involved. Something action-based. I just think its would be really funny to get Bruce Willis involved in a Gorillaz album and I’ll bet you there’s a perfect way to do it.”

According to Ultimate-Guitar.com, via KROQ.com, one member of this “eclectic cast” will be none other than Danger Mouse, who has been tapped to serve as the producer of currently untitled album, scheduled for release “sometime around March 21st.” Yep, you read that right. The world could soon be jamming to the next great “Feel Good INC.” A single will reportedly head the release on March 7th.

More as it comes.
