Fall Out Boy preps new album with lots of guests and delays…

Sure Patrick Stump may be recording renditions of “Love Lockdown” and Pete Wentz is getting ready to be a father, but that doesn’t me the two aren’t busy with the usual Fall Out Boy obligations. In fact, Stump, Wentz, and the rest of the Chicago-based outfit are currently busy putting the final touches on its fifth full-length effort, Folie à Deux.

So what should we expect from Fall Out Boy’s forthcoming release? Well, whenever it does hit stores (after two delays, the album is now scheduled for release on December 16th) Folie à Deux’s is said to be quite the politically charged, social commentary - one reason for the album’s postponement.

“Six months ago, we thought it would be a fun idea to release our album on Election Day, but this is not the election to be cute. This is the most important election of our time and, as much as the record is a social commentary and the term ‘Folie à Deux’ is relevant to the candidates, we felt as though rather than making a commentary, we were only riding the wave of the election. This seemed less and less like what we intended to do and more of a gimmick…

While we have all individually expressed our positions on the candidates that we support, we feel that many of the interviews and press for the record have skewed us into a partisan band. We never intended to be the band that shoved our ideas down people’s throats. We only hope people look at the bigger picture and investigate the issues further on their own.”

However, once the album is officially released, it should have no problem in the publicity department, and we’re not basing that on the fact that’s its predecessor hit #1 last year. In addition to its conscious themes, Folie à Deux will also feature a number of noteworthy guests. Lil Wayne, Panic at the Disco, and Blondie are among the confirmed guest collaborators, while Pharrell Williams participated in the production elements of a few tracks. Oh, and did we mention Elvis Costello ruined his musical carreer got in on the fun as well?

All in all, Fall Out Boy certainly appear to be going all out. If you’re looking to get a few early tastes, check out the album’s recently revealed second single, “Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet” below. Single #1, “I Don’t Care”, was released in September.
