Fucked Up goes 12 hours with a little help from its friends

Moby, Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, Vivian Girls, and lots of Colt 45. In case you didn’t stop by Rogan NYC between 2 p.m. and 2 a.m. yesterday, those are among the musicians and empty cans of beer you missed at Fucked Up’s 12-hour marathon. Les Savy Fav’s Tim Harrington showed up too as did Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis, all to offer a bit of guest support during the Toronto’s outfit’s day long concert in support of its recently released studio album, The Chemistry of Common Life.

Thankfully for the non attendees and those who couldn’t stomach all 12 hours of friendly punk anthems and/or anymore 50 cent beers, there are plenty of pics and videos now floating around online to fill in all the blanks, for example, head over to Spin and the Matablog for lots of behind-the-scenes pics. Though the best we can, only The Fader has an exit poll from the diehard attendees who put in a half day’s worth of live music.

Among the highlights? Moby going all punk on “Blitzkreig Bop” (watch below) is kind of awesome. Fucked Up also apparently followed in the footsteps of Of Montreal and dished out a rendition of “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.

I arrive at around 7:30, just as Pink Eyes, our still-shirtless, phenomenally hirsute frontman and ringleader, is announcing that Fucked Up will play a couple more songs and then kick everyone out for a half-hour or so just to ‘air the place out,” which frankly is a fantastic idea, given that this joint now smells like a poorly maintained sauna that also serves Colt 45. “I can’t believe it’s only the halfway point,” he adds/moans.
