Chinese Democracy details inching closer…
Updated: 12:35 p.m.
It might not be the stellar, spectacular news update we’ve all been waiting for, but things are starting to surface regarding the release of Chinese Democracy. You know, that long awaited follow up from Guns N’ Roses. Who? You remember, the former larger than life rock act that used to sweep the world. The world? Shut up.
Anyhow, it’s not much, but if you’ve been waiting as long as most fans have for this album, this lil’ piece of news is a big, big deal. Best Buy, who is reportedly issuing the disc solely, has Chinese Democracy in its system already. Need proof? Just go and pre-order it yourself, or just take a gander below.
You’ll notice what appears to be the first glimpse of album artwork yet. You’re also probably scratching your head at the part which reads, “(Cover A) (Bb).” There’s certainly something to this, but not much is confirmed. Earlier reports had GnR fans finding links to several copies, all promising different album artwork. Could this be a rehash of last year’s Zeitgeist crisis with the Pumpkins? Let’s hope not.
As far as album covers go, it seems that the “rumored” artwork from a year or two ago was actually right on target. Here’s an example of the “rumored” art and the “confirmed” art:
Better yet, the track listing has finally surfaced. This is a big deal because over the last few years, everything from three albums to double albums to single releases have been rumored. Now it’s official: it’s a single disc release.

From the looks of it, there are some new songs here: “Scraped” and “Street Of Dreams”. Though in actuality, “Street Of Dreams” is probably just “The Blues”, as the song has “street of dreams” in its lyrics. It’s also intriguing to see confirmation of “Sorry” and “Prostitute”, both of which have been rumored for years, with the former pegged as Sebastian Bach’s favorite and the latter appearing on earlier set lists in 2006. Oh, and to see “Catcher in the Rye” on the tracklist is a real gift too, as the Brian May written song is one of the stand outs of the past few demos. And if you’re interested to hear how some of the recording sessions went, then there’s a cool video with former drummer Brian “Brain” Mantia for you here.
Still not sold? Or are you just reading this to find out how to get your free can of Dr. Pepper? There’s some news there, too. We’re not the only ones taking notice of these “rumors”, as it looks like Dr. Pepper is on the money too. Thank God, we wouldn’t want to miss out on our favorite soda, right?
“We’re waiting to hear about ‘Chinese Democracy’ just like all the other GN’R fans,” Dr Pepper VP of marketing Tony Jacobs told Billboard. “But if the rumors are true, we’re putting the Dr Pepper on ice.”
Crazy, huh? Who would have thought this would all happen, come to fruition, and really occur in 2008. Let’s see, out of unlikely scenarios, this year has been the king of surprises…
- The nomination and promise of a black president? Check.
- The nomination of a female vice president? Check.
- Bill Murray interested in Ghostbusters 3? Check.
- The return of Indiana Jones? Check.
- Chinese Democracy finding its way into stores? Check.
What a year, huh? Excellent if you ask me. Let’s just hope the first and last thing on that list come true. Hey, we’ll see next month. The fourth and twenty-third, respectively.
Sigh…
Check Out:

Sorry Michael…not sure why I typed Mark.
I am not doubting you listened to the album, I just think you lower yourself to the uninformed standards of most music journalists out there when you make these snide little references to the marketing/release strategy or some other cheap shot (like Corgan being an egomaniac)…as if either of those are an accurate reflection on the body of work contained on that album (same goes for the band line-up, if the same ppl are writign the songs, calling the shots, and recording most of the studio tracks).
I also never saw a “first listen” review on here, which is why I was curious as to your deeper thoughts about Zeitgeist, outside of the snide comments.
But just so you know where I am coming from, I personally enjoy Zeitgeist better than Adore or any of the 2 Machinas. To me, in many ways Z should have been the album to come out after MCIS if it weren’t for all the problems that occured. But I’ll respond in greater detail in the album review thread.
But yea, thats cool you’re going to those shows. I’ll also be there at all 4 in Chicago, not to mention the tour opening shows this coming weekend (the only way to be truly surprised, due to the damn internet). Its partly due to all the live shows I’ve seen since 2007 that I’m so frustrated over the reception of Zeitgeist. The songs are much better than ppl give them credit for on that album, and i’m on a mission to make people see beyond the lineup soap opera and the RTB production.
And btw, this band has always had an “eccentric jamming” side to it…
First off, davin, name’s Michael.. not Mark. Mark sounds like a yacht salesman to me.
Second, how do I judge the album by its cover? If you think I haven’t listened to Zeitgeist simply because of the Best Buy thing, you’re wrong.
I happened to buy the album three times (purple, red, and grey/black). I thought a lot of the songs were decent, but after repeated listens, realized that the production is crappy and that it’s essentially two people playing everything. That’s not a Pumpkins record to me.
I’ll have a “Second Listen” on here, but let me lift the curtain now for you… it’s a 2 and a half star album. “That’s the Way”, “Doomsday Clock” and “Bring the Light” is good, but the rest is so convoluted with overdubbing and eccentric jamming that it’s not a Pumpkins record to me.
Now, I like the production of “G.L.O.W.”, so I look forward to new releases by them, but essentially, I just want Corgan to get off his high horse and allow Jeff and Ginger (and Lisa) to contribute in the studio… at the very least, vocally.
And by the way, you’re also talking to someone who’s so obsessed he bought four tickets to four separate shows here. I mean, is that enough for you?
If not, we’ll duke it out while we wait for our parents to come pick us up after class. Haha.
sighs @ Zeitgeist comment.
still waiting on your “second listen” review of this, Mark. Maybe then you’ll stop judging this book by its cover(s).
