Johnny Cash gets remixed
For someone no longer with us, Johnny Cash is sure doing a good job maintaining his presence in the “new music” section of your local record store. After getting the punk treatment earlier this summer, on January 27th, the legendary singer/songwriter will now see a number of his classics infused with the sounds of hip-hop and dance in order to make some electrifying remixes.
Produced by son John Carter Cash and Snoop Dogg, Johnny Cash Remixed offers 13 tracks recently licensed from Cash’s work with the Tennessee Two between 1956 and 1959 on Sun Records with a touch of contemporary sound. The ultimate goal of the album is to “bring the sensibility and technology of 2008 to recordings universally accepted as timeless with the blessing and support of the custodians of Johnny Cash’s legacy.”
“He set the standard at the same time. He would have loved this remix record. While it stays true to the original recordings, this CD touches on undiscovered ground. This is what my father was about: staying true to tradition while creating groundbreaking new music.”
- John Carter Cash
Ahead of the release, a vinyl deluxe-edition of Johnny Cash Remixed is now available in select independent record stores. The album is also now available as a stream via its official website.

say it again…
What I wouldn’t give to have been a fly on the wall listening to Snoop, Matthew Knowles, and John Carter Cash’s conversations.
