Check Out: Coldplay gets “Lost” with Jay-Z

Alrighty. So by now, we all know about Coldplay’s forthcoming EP, Prospekt’s March, and all its exclusive, deluxe edition, Jay-Z featuring goodness. But aside from that “Beach House” track from way back when, which was nothing really more than some vocal sampling, it was hard to imagine how the pleasing, Bono-like vocals of Chris Martin would mesh with some serious hip-hop rhyming from the New York based rapper on the billed “Lost +” (feat. Jay-Z).

Turns out, not too bad at all. Sure there was some “uh ohs” by the midway point when hand-clapping and Martin’s heart-warming vocals were the only things to have flowed from the speakers. But then some “checks” and “I gotchu” introducing the familiar styling of Jay-Z appear, before segueing into a 60 second verse of name drops and philosophical examinations - “And the question is, “Is to have had and lost/Better than not having at all?” Its equally cheesy and brilliant at the same time, and provides a nice selection for for those who often have some trouble getting caught up in the Coldplay hype.
