The Long Blondes call it quits
Looks like we won’t be getting renditions of any “Giddy Stratospheres” or “Weekend Without Makeup” from a live setting anytime soon. At least coming from the original composers. Citing a seizure experienced by guitarist Dorian Cox last summer, which caused the band to cancel a scheduled opening stint with Duran Duran and put his future in doubt, The Long Blondes have decided to split.
The main reason for this is that I suffered from a stroke in June and unfortunately I do not know when / if I will be well enough to play guitar again.
On behalf of the band I’d like to say a big thank you to anyone who ever came to one of our shows, bought one of our records or danced to one of our songs in a club. Thank you, if it wasn’t for you the whole thing would have been pointless.

During their nearly five years of existence, The Long Blondes released two full-length albums - 2006’s Someone To Drive You Home and 2007’s “Couples” - both of which fairly impressive debuts on the U.K. charts, performed a number of high-profile music festivals, including Reading & Leeds and Glastonbury, and were named the ” best unsigned band in the UK” in 2006 by The Guardian.
Bassist Reenie Hollis and drummer Screech Louder recently began a side-project entitled The Bon Bon Club and released a debut 7″ over the summer. I guess that’s something to fall back on…
