CoS remembers Elliott Smith

Yesterday, October 21, 2008, marked the fifth anniversary of Elliott Smith’s untimely passing. The Academy Award nominated singer/songwriter, whose image laced narratives and five full-length studio albums not only captured the minds of endearing bands, but influenced many of today’s favorite artists, was 34-years-old.

Five years later, Smith’s death remains a shock and and still feels almost unreal, especially when acoustic strums resonate from the speakers, introducing any one of his three-minute masterpieces. “This man can’t be dead,” you think, “It’s just not possible!” But then you remember the murals and tribute shows, the posthumous New Moon and songs like Ben Fold’s “Late”, and reality soon sets in. Life certainly can be a bitch, can’t it?

All we have now are songs, videos, and memories. But hey, that’s better than nothing! So on the fifth anniversary of his death, we’d like to remember Elliott Smith with some of our favorite recorded moments.

“Miss Misery” (Live at the Oscars)

“We’re All Friends Now” (Previously Unreleased)

“Son of Sam” (Live)

“Jealous Guy” (John Lennon Cover) (Live)

“Angeles” (Live)
