Coldplay unveils fashion, political leanings on SNL
In case you missed it, Amy Poehler had a baby over the weekend, and while little Archie was getting accustomed to his new environment, Saturday Night Live was stuck with some unexpected gaps due to the cast member’s absence. The solution? Give the musical guest, Coldplay, more time to play.
So instead of the normal two song set given to most musical acts, Chris Martin and his British bandmates performed four songs live on the late night television program: “Viva La Vida”, “Lost”, “Yellow”, and “Lovers in Japan”. Of course due to NBC’s lovely copyright policy, finding clips of these performances is as difficult as trying to explain that Coldplay and U2 are not the same band. Fortunately, there is one floating around… we have the next closest thing, a video of “Viva La Vida” from NYC’s Hammerstein Ballroom a while back…
While Coldplay fans were likely loving the extra songs, NBC executives might have been second guessing themselves by the time SNL had come to in an end. Between Martin’s handmade white armband with “Obama” written on it to the frontman’s shout out to the Democratic Presidential candidate at the end of “Yellow”, the Coldplay’s overly political performance drew some criticism, especially considering, well…the outfit is British.
However, rumor has it this might not be the last time Coldplay and Barack Obama make headlines together. According to Michael Rapino of Livenation in an interview with La Repubblica, should the Democrat win the election next week, a victory concert will be held in celebration sometime in early 2009. One of the possible headlining acts? You guessed it - Coldplay.

Same thing.
Also, you misspelled “Viva La Vida” as “La Viva Vida”
as long as we’re pointing out mistakes
The label lied! Thanks for the heads up.
that video is from the secret concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom not from SNL
