Noel Gallagher looks ahead to another Oasis album

Noel Gallagher looks ahead to another Oasis album

Either Noel Gallagher wasn’t too satisfied how Dig Out Your Soul turned out, or the Oasis frontman picked up a few tricks of the trade in the write-everything-that-comes-to-mind philosophy from recent tourmate Ryan Adams. Whatever the case, Noel is already talking about future endeavors even though Oasis still has many months of touring still ahead.

In a recent interview with Billboard, the English native revealed that he has already completed and demoed material for the follow up to the band’s recently released seventh studio album. Describing the album as Kinks-eske with a few “psychedelic epics” mixed in, Gallagher noted it will feature material that very much differs from the most recent styles and themes offered by Oasis.

“They all seem to be based around the same four or five chords,” Gallagher says. “It’s vastly different from what (’Dig Out Your Soul’) is.”

There’s also a thematic unity that he likens to Neil Young’s “Greendale.” “It’s kind of like that, but modern,” Gallagher says. “There’s stuff about soldiers and religious people and rock stars and travelers. They seem to be all songs about people, but not people I know. And they all seem to have a narrative; it’s kind of like a story which follows on from song to song.”

Gallagher did note that while a number of the songs already written, such as ones entitled “I Want to Live in a Dream in My Record Machine” and “Come On It’s Alright”, were completed during the recording of Dig Out Your Soul, because of the contrasting elements and creative ideas like making use a choir (see Electric Proms), the band “ran out of time” to record them.

He gave no timetable for when we could expect what would be Oasis’ eighth studio album, but confirms it probably won’t be ready until the band finishes its current tour (ie., sometime late 2009). Still combine this with Noel’s plans for a solo album of sorts - “I’m going to do one sooner or later — hopefully sooner rather than later” - and the Gallagher boys should have a heavy presence in our iTunes library for months to come.
