Slayer plans new album of its own

Speaking of the Unholy Alliance Tour, in news that will surely make even Ryan Adams happy, Slayer is also set to release a new album next year as well. Following in the footsteps of tourmates Matsodon, the California metal outfit has been using the high-profile European tour to debut a number of new selections, many of which are expected to appear on the eventual follow up to 2006’s Christ Illusion. While specifics remain a bit sketchy, according to Slayerized.com, the band recorded several new songs over the last two months and expects to include them in what will be Slayer’s tenth full-length studio album sometime in the summer of 2009.

As for these new songs we speak of, one entitled “Psychopathy Red”, a selection about the mind of Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, is being given to fans who attend the Unholy Alliance Tour as part of a limited edition download bundle. Fortunately, thanks to the wonders of the internet, you don’t need to head to Europe to get a taste of the new materiel. A video of Slayer working on the song is now available on Spin.com, while you can listen to a high-quality version of it below:
