Check Out: Springsteen’s Halloween treat

Just because Bruce Springsteen won’t be jazzing up his house tonight doesn’t mean the legendary musician still can’t have some Halloween fun. In fact, the Boss has come up with a treat that will surely delight fans around the world, regardless of costume, plans, or even love for chocolate. You see, this treat is one of those virtual types.

Springsteen has posted a song entitled “A Night With the Jersey Devil” as a free digital download on his official website. No “trick or treats” or costumes are required. Neither is an email address, which has become the standard fee for free downloads these days. Nope, all you has to do to get in on the Halloween fun is click download and you’re ready to rock to the song Springsteen describes as the following:

“If you grew up in central or south Jersey you grew up with the ‘Jersey Devil.’ Here’s a little musical Halloween treat. Have fun!”

The accompanying music video, also available on Springsteen’s website and/or below, only adds to the fun. Where else are you going to get three minutes of the Boss chopping with an axe, dressed up as a crazed minister, and howling like a wolf, all while sporting an extra scary, possessed look that would make even Freddy Kruger cringe.

As for the song itself, it is also heavy in Halloween content, a Waitsian style blues number in which Springsteen rants about witches and spells. The Jersey Devil he speaks of, according to Wikipedia, is a “creature or cryptid said to inhabit the Pine Barrens in southern New Jersey. The creature is often described as a flying biped with hooves, but there are many variations.” It’s the same Devil that inspired the name of the state’s hockey team. All in all, the blues beats and unique lyrical content make for a nice little number, and one which will surely be playing on a loop all day as you spend hours in front of the mirror trying to line up your Amy Winehouse wig.
