Springsteen plans January release?
We knew Bruce Springsteen was a busy man these days, but after today’s news, the 59-year-old is now just making everyone else look bad. Between the Obama rallies and Halloween treat, the Boss has seemingly been a constant presence on the front pages over the last few weeks and with his performance at this year’s Super Bowl half-time show mere months away, that fact likely won’t be changing anytime soon.
And that’s even before we mention what is reportedly in the works for January. While rumors of the follow up to 2007’s Magic have been floating around since early June, it now appears the album could be on our hands before we know it. Though details remain a bit sketchy, according to Backstreets.com, Springsteen currently plans to release a brand new effort “around the time of the Presidential Inauguration in January 2009.”
The report certainly makes sense, considering the scrapped plans for a fall tour left the New Jersey native
with some extra time on his hands, some of which he apparently spent with producer Brendan O’Brien. As for the issue of content, that is a bit more unclear, however according to Backstreets, “Workin’ on a Dream”, a track unveiled over the weekend at an Obama rally in Ohio, will be on the album.
Does this mean our hopes for a Waitsian-esque blues album have been dashed and Bruce will instead be going heavy in the acoustic, politically influenced numbers? Or is “Workin’ on a Dream” simply some spur of the moment number that will be reworked to incorporate the rocking sound of the E Street Band (ie., whistle = Clarence’s saxophone)? We’ll keep you updated…

In reading the book “For You,” at first it’s hard to believe that one performer could possibly have touched this many people this deeply — lifted them from depression, kept them from suicide, helped them through divorce or the death of a parent, or worse, a child. But story after story reveals just how much Springsteen’s music and his almost superhuman presence on the concert stage have penetrated people’s lives and, in as much as it is possible for music to do so, made them whole.
