Deftones bassist seriously injured after car accident
Deftones bassist Chi Cheng currently finds himself fighting for his life after being involved in a serious car accident in Santa Clara, California on Monday. According to the rock outfit’s hometown paper, The Sacramento Bee, the 38-year-old Stockton native is now in a coma.
Cheng’s fellow bandmate, frontman Chino Moreno, broke news of the accident yesterday via its blog:
It deeply saddens me to inform you all that our brother Chi Cheng was involved in a terrible car accident last night. He is currently in a Northern California Hospital in serious, but stable condition. I am on my way up North right now to be by his side along with the rest of our band mates and family. Chi is one of the strongest people I know, and I’m praying that his strength will get him through this. Please say a prayer for him as well.
Cheng has been the bassist of the Deftones since the group formed in 1988. Most recently, the rock outfit had been in the studio working on Eros, the follow up to 2006’s Saturday Night Wrist. Cheng and the Deftones last performed live in mid-September for a series of shows in California.
