Watch: The Decemberists bring a surprise to Conan
It seems like just yesterday we were taking in the sights and sounds of Colin Meloy’s solo endeavors. But given the news of late, The Decemberists are certainly back in the forefront of the music world. In fact, between the Always the Bridesmaid singles collection and North American tour, which is set to kick off later tonight, we’ll likely be seeing quite a bit of the Oregon oufit over the next few months. And that’s without mentioning the band’s forthcoming fifth studio album.
On Monday, Colin Meloy and Co. stopped by Conan’s program to squeeze a quick pratice in before life gets
too busy. Led by its quirky frontma, sporting a beautiful golden Les Paul, on which the word VOTE could be seen written in tape, and a Obama pin attached to his lapel (gee…I wonder if Meloy is happy about last night’s result?), the quintent took to the stage for a suprise rendition of the “The Days of Elaine”. After promising of Volume 1’s “Valerie Plame” in the days leading up to the performance, The Decemberists instead chose to go with a track off the newly released Volume 2. Regardless of the reasoning, the performance proved expectedly great, though the song is not a particularly interesting one for the group when compared to some of their more experimental work. Still, check it out for yourself below…
Volumes I and II of Always the Bridesmaid are available now in both physical and digital formats, while the entire series, complete with t-shirt, can still be pre-ordered as a bundle from the band’s own site. We’ll still have to wait a while for that crazy Hazards of Love, however.
