Check Out: Obama’s new theme songs
Lets be honest, whether you agree with his policies or not, Tuesday’s election of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States was one of the more historic moments in United States history, and it’s no surprise that folks across the country and around the world are celebrating in scenes that are eerily reminiscent to the end of Independence Day. Hell, his celebration at Grant Park made Lollapalooza like a backyard BBQ.
But one thing Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum didn’t get after shooting down the alien mothership was a song.
While between Springsteen and Will.I.Am, Obama inspired ballads are nothing new, the newly elected President has received a few “victory songs” since his victory on Tuesday.
Even despite being on tour in Europe, Nas set aside some time “during the wee hours of the night” in the days leading up to the election to record a selection entitled, “Election Night”. With samples of Obama present in the background, the New York City rapper dishes out rhymes predicting the win and explaining why it occured:
“I’m a first-time voter,” Nas raps. “How can I front?/ Barack been campaigning like 21 months/ The whole country needs answers / While he has to deal with grandma dying from cancer/ He ain’t even got time to weep/ And we standing on line when we normally don’t/ People claim black people too lazy to vote.”

Back in the U.S., Will.I.Am. also found some time between his hologram on CNN and partying at Grant Park to create another pro-Obama track entitled, “It’s a New Day”. For those counting, this is the Black Eyed Peas frontman’s third song written for Obama; “Yes You Can” and “We Are The Ones” both heavy in celebrity appearances, dropped way back in February. “While “It’s a New Day” echos its predecessors’ positive vibes, this around, the song is a bit more intimate, as Will.I.Am. is the lone voice.

While Thom Yorke didn’t go as far as write an entirely new selection for the new President, the Radiohead frontman has offered up a tribute in the form of a remix of “Harrowdown Hill”.
did i fall or was i pushed?
in celebration of nov 5th
jonnys burthday
amid bonfire and fireworks in the UK
and the dawn of a new era in politics in the USA
i humbly donate a remix of harrowdown hill that was finished ages ago during the band webcasts,
a small reminder of the dark days of Bush’s….
And not to be outdone, Cleveland rockers Punchline have recorded a pro-Obama version of “What A Wonderful World”…
