Land of Talk celebrates new album with more touring
I’m not really sure what’s better: Land of Talk’s seemingly never-ending list of tour dates or the catchy melodies these Montreal natives produce. If you’re like me and you have a hard time choosing, thankfully for at least the next few months, the Elizabeth Powell led outfit has made it easy for us.
Just weeks after Land of Talk unveiled its debut full-length album, Some Are Lakes, the group has
announced a new round of North American tour dates. Kicking off this week, Powell and Co. will crisscross their native homeland before joining another cool bunch of Canadians for a trek across the lower half of the U.S. In fact, during these particular dates, fans will actually get a double dose of Powell…
You’ll be singing with Broken Social Scene on the upcoming tour as well as opening with Land of Talk. What’s the biggest challenge singing BSS songs as opposed to singing LoT songs? Amy Millan, Feist and Emily Haines are awfully big personalities — is it intimidating having to fill in for them?
Of course it is!!! Well, it WAS. But the band members did an incredible job at never entertaining my insecurities and so, like, anything that doesn’t get fed, they starved and eventually perished. And it helps to NEVER read what the critics say. I am sometimes tempted, but it’s usually trash anyway and I decided long ago to throw trash (and bullshit, and hearsay, and poppycock, and the cynical rantings of embittered trollers) in the garbage. Wait a minute, what IS poppycock exactly — aside from being a hilarious word?- Elizabeth Powell via RFT Blog
A quick plane ride across the Atlantic follows in early December, allowing Land of Talk to finish conclude its busy 2008 with a bit of sightseeing across Europe.
