Stagecoach slashes prices, sign of things to come?
Earlier this week, GoldenVoice officially kicked of next year’s summer festival season with the lineup announcement for the 2009 edition of the Stagecoach Music Festival. But as impressive as the bill for the Indio, California based event turned out to be, it was the accompanying ticket prices which ultimately most caught our attention.
Two-day passes for Stagecoach ‘09 will be available begining November 14th for the price of $99.00; only five dollars more than the cost of a single-day ticket for last year’s version of the festival. What’s more, Stagecoach has also added a layaway option for folks who would rather pay the admission in incriminates. So what’s the catch? Well, there isn’t really. Based on the aforementioned bill, these decreased prices are clearly not an attempt to scale back on either quality or quantity, but simply as GoldenVoice founder/producer Paul Tollet noted in a recent interview with The Press-Enterprise, the festival’s promoters attempt to adhere to the current economy.
“We want to make it so no matter what your financial status is, you can go to the show… We live out here too. We know what the economy is like.
We want to build it to where you can count on that show just because of the vibe…But we’ll never let you down on the talent, either.”
Is this a sign of things to come for other music festivals? Well, GoldenVoice is the producer of another fairly well-known festival and one which often has a great influence on other festivals across the country in terms of lineup and price. So perhaps it’d wouldn’t be all that far-fetched to assume you’ll have a few extra bucks in your pocket this time next year…

With TM fees I think Coachella tix were about $280 last year, which seemed really high compared to the prices of other festivals. Hopefully we’ll see a dip this year, but on the other hand not compromise the level of the bands they bring in.
yeah a cut in prices wouldnt upset me either. esp. bonnaroo, their prices last year were ridiculous.
considering right now I’m trying to find a way to head down to miami for either langeradoo or ultra, and then head across the country to coachella, and then go to bonnaroo as well… that few extra bucks may come in handy. haha.
