Belle & Sebastian frontman gets into movie business
With Belle and Sebastian on a hiatus, Stuart Murdoch has had plenty of extra time on his hands to work on other creative endeavors. In fact, the Scottish frontman has even go as far to dabble in a whole new medium. Well, kind of.
Since early this year, Murdoch has been hard at work penning a musical film entitled God Help The Girl. With casting complete, the singer/songwriter is now invested in creating the musical component of the picture: a 18-song soundtrack featuring members of Belle and Sebastian along with Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy and Asy of Smoosh. In a recent blog entry on the band’s website, Murdoch revealed his hope to master the soundtrack by November before ultimately begining production in early 2009.
“It’s a good feeling to think about making records. Sleeves and schedules, running orders and what not. It’s been so long since I did it that, I suspect the landscape has changed.”
Between this, The Lips’ Christmas on Mars, and Billy’s If All Goes Wrong, it’s getting to the point where we might need to add a category for Best Film at the Grammys…
In the meantime, for those Belle and Sebastain fans who have worn out 2006’s The Life Pursuit on repeated listen and can’t stand waiting until 2009 for God Help The Girl, don’t worry, The BBC Sessions will be in your hands in a mere eight days.
