Christina Aguilera expresses her love for indie music on new album

Christina Aguilera’s forthcoming studio album will be anything but a Circus. In fact, considering what the Staten Island native has planned, the follow up to 2006’s Back to Basics could be embraced by even the most cynical of hipsters and not in that weird erotic, “Gennie in the Bottle” kind of way.

Citing the influences of the ever growing electro friendly genre, Aguilera recently revealed in a teleconfrence with reporters that her upcoming album will echo these sounds, offering a “futuristic, atmospheric” feel. To do so, the pop star will not only incorporate the influences into her work, but enlist the musicians behind them to help her do so. Sia, Goldfrapp, Ladytron, are among the well-known guests currently tapped to join Aguilera when she hits the studio in January.

While the exact roles of these indie fan favorites is still unknown, according to Aguilera, it should be much more than some collective background vocals.

“I’m not exactly sure what we’re gonna get when we get in the studio together, but (as) with all great things I’ll go in and there’s probably magic to be had.”

In an interview with Spin over the summer, Sia revealed she will have a hand in the writing of the album, “It might not work, she might not like any of the stuff I write, and it may not make the cut, but I’m pretty excited about it — I think she’s rad!”

  1. I’m not quite sure how I feel about her new direction. Take a listen to some of the new tracks on her recent Greatest Hits album for a possible primer of what’s to come. The “Genie” and “Beautiful” remakes are hard to swallow after hearing the originals for so many years, but the other two brand new ones “Keeps Gettin’ Better” and “Dynamite”, are catchy and make good use of the supposed new electro, futuristic feel. Personally I would’ve liked to see her expand on the soulful and jazzier elements of Back to Basics and really show off her vocals.
