The Strokes have plans for 2009… we think?

As of today, it has been two years, one month, and one day since The Strokes last appeared together on stage. It’s been even longer since the release of the New York outfit’s third full-length effort, First Impressions of Earth (two years, 10 months, and seven days to be exact.) Talk about milking it, eh?

Yet even after a summer of full of Pharrell Williams rumors and meetings, at the moment, we’re still no closer to getting a new studio album than we were back in January when Albert Hammond, Jr. scared everyone upon telling Pitchfork that he had “no idea” as to the status of The Strokes.

Of course, there have been Strokes related side-projects of sorts: Hammond, Jr. released ¿Cómo Te Llama?, Julian Casablancas hung with Pharrell and Santogold, Nikolai Fraiture debuted the guest-friendly Nickel Eye, and Fabrizio Moretti teamed up with Binki Shapiro and ex-Los Hermano’s guitarist Rodrigo Amarant for Little Joy. But I think after almost three years, it’s more than appropriate to say, “hurry up already!” After all, how much longer will fans be able to hold out?

Well, if you believe Moretti, it won’t be much longer. In a recent interview with Billboard, the drummer noted the band does has plans to get back together in the very near future. The quintet has “plans of meeting up all of us together in February (to) kind of start noodling around and stuff,” which will likely include a new album and supporting tour.

That’s sounds great, but it is a bit disconcerning that The Strokes haven’t even started “noodling” yet. I mean, they did have three years…

Between now and February, Moretti will hit the road with Little Joy in support the group’s recently released, self-titled debut album.

  1. Acho tudo besteira. Os caras são bons. Ponto final. DEIXEM ELES EM PAZ!

    OBS: VENHAM AO BRASIL STROKES!

  2. i want to go see the strokes play i live in cali what do i do???

  3. Well, news from their myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/thestrokes) has told us that they are now in the process of making their 4th album. although i am giddy with anticipation, it is an important note that we stay patient. i have been informed that it may take a while, with the fact that they currently dont have a recording studio booked YET. i say HURRY!

Here it is as the site quotes “WORK BEGINS ON 4TH ALBUM PLANS… After a long and much needed hibernation period that saw many of the band’s various other musical projects emerge, we’re pleased to announce that The Strokes are now all back hard at work in their NYC space on writing and rehearsing new material for a 4th full-length album. No recording studio time has been booked yet, as they sketch out the blue-prints of new songs and fine tune plans in their rehearsal space, but it will undoubtedly be all mapped out and etched in stone at some point in the not-too-distant future.”

  4. Gee itz sad though, they have so much potential and this long Hiatus makes fans feel a little in the air.
If they’re coming back, whats the point in hurring now?
and if they dont come back. lets enjoy they’re three amazing albums after all theres nothing we can do much to hurry them.

I personally miss the days when bands like The Strokes were more common, i mean bands with potential.
Nowedays theres just crap in the music industry. its sad.

I happen to be young and happen to hate this era already.
    I wish the 60’s - 80’s came back to pay uis a visit!! x-x

  5. the band ain’t coming back, we just have to face reality. it’s been along time without any news from them.

  6. It would be great if they´d come to latin america! Argentina more than anything! It´s one of the best indie bands, I really love them. And also I´m really excited about a next album!

  7. This is killing me! No one wants to rush them…but enough is enough. There’s no denying the members of The Strokes are getting older, and they need to make this music now when they’re still young and in the “I’m bored with the world” mindset everyone fell in love with back on “Is This It?” I hope the hiatus hasn’t changed them much. They need to put down a couple more albums in music history before they’re allowed to leave. Three is not enough for any band, especially a band with as much potential as they’ve shown so far.

  8. Remember the days of the early 70s when EVERY band in existence regularly released new albums once a year, but never without the highest quality of material?

    Oh wait.

My parents hadn’t even met yet.

  9. True, but I think three years is a little excessive…

  10. Personally I like the hiatus, it gives them time to work on material when they released room on fire it was a decent album but nothing like the first or last, I think because they rushed it. But with Hammond Jr having some pretty good riffs on his solo hopefully he could muster up some more
