The Strokes have plans for 2009…we think?
As of today, it has been two years, one month, and one day since The Strokes last appeared together on stage. It’s been even longer since the release of the New York outfit’s third full-length effort, First Impressions of Earth (two years, 10 months, and seven days to be exact.) Talk about milking it, eh?
Yet even after a summer of full of Pharrell Williams rumors and meetings, at the moment, we’re still no closer to getting a new studio album than we were back in January when Albert Hammond, Jr. scared everyone upon telling Pitchfork that he had “no idea” as to the status of The Strokes.
Of course there have been Strokes related side-projects of sorts: Hammond, Jr. released ¿Có
mo Te Llama?, Julian Casablancas hung with Pharrell and Santogold, Nikolai Fraiture debuted the guest-friendly Nickel Eye, and Fabrizio Moretti teamed up with Binki Shapiro and ex-Los Hermano’s guitarist Rodrigo Amarant for Little Joy. But I think after almost three years, it’s more than appropriate to say, “hurry up already!” After all, how much longer will fans be able to hold out?
Well, if you believe Moretti, it won’t be much longer. In a recent interview with Billboard, the drummer noted the band does has plans to get back together in the very near future. The quintet has “plans of meeting up all of us together in February (to) kind of start noodling around and stuff,” which will likely include a new album and supporting tour.
That’s sounds great, but it is a bit disconcerning that The Strokes haven’t even started “noodling” yet. I mean, they did have three years…
Between now and February, Moretti will hit the road with Little Joy in support the group’s recently released, self-titled debut album.

Personally I like the hiatus, it gives them time to work on material when they released room on fire it was a decent album but nothing like the first or last, I think because they rushed it. But with Hammond Jr having some pretty good riffs on his solo hopefully he could muster up some more
True, but I think three years is a little excessive…
Remember the days of the early 70s when EVERY band in existence regularly released new albums once a year, but never without the highest quality of material?
Oh wait.
My parents hadn’t even met yet.
