Mudvayne back with a “New Game”
Back in 2000, the music world was first introduced to metal heads Mudvayne courtesy of the the ferocious sounds of the band’s debut single, “Dig”. The song’s hellish video was equally frightening, yet somehow managed to earn airtime on MTV; by the end of 2001, Mudvayne was celebrating a gold record and mainstream success.
Fast forward seven years and things aren’t much different. Sure, MTV has about as much clout in the music world as Bobby Brown, but that isn’t stopping the television network from once again giving the metal outfit a helping hand. With its new album, The New Game, due out next Tuesday, and a worldwide tour set to kick off in mere days, Mudvayne is again teaming up with MTV.
Living up to the spirit of the album’s title, the Illinois based quartet will launch an interactive contest
designed to enable “fans to discover the music in a brand new way.”
Beginning the day of release, fans will find the following items inside their album packaging to play the game: a unique code number they will need to register on Mudvayne.com, 11 mugshot photos of different suspects and the full back-story on the situation involving each suspect. To solve the mystery by eliminating one suspect each week, fans must use the full album packaging including: lyrics for the new album; the mugshots and information on each suspect included in the packaging; their historical knowledge of MUDVAYNE; and the video for “Do What You Do” (which premieres and airs all day on MTV2 Monday, November 10 as well as MTV2.COM), along with weekly clues revealed at www.mudvayne.com.
A lifetime VIP membership for the band’s fan club and autographed guitar are among the prices up for grabs to those who can solve the mystery. If you’re not the one for puzzles and/or are just looking for some metal without a catch, don’t worry, participation isn’t required. The band’s fourth full-length effort, which is described as “heavy” and “full of great hooks,” though a bit “warmer” than its predecessor, 2005’s Lost and Found will also be supported by the old-fashioned means: an extensive North American tour and the release of its first single, “Do What You Do”.
