The Pretenders to tour in ‘09
Rattled fans just itchin’ to slap their eyes on Chrissie Hynde can finally settle down. She’s taking her act, you know, The Pretenders, out on the road for a tour. The catch? You’ll have to wait ’til next year. So, fans of the ’80s UK act will definitely have something to mark down on their New Year’s Resolutions.
In support of their latest release, Break Up the Concrete, The Pretenders will embark on their first tour since, well, 2007. It’s not a big deal or anything, but they won’t be supporting ZZ Top or the Stray Cats, and they’ll
also have plenty of material to choose from. At the very least, Hynde seems thrilled.
“We’ll probably be touring most of the year, I think; that’s what we’re hoping for, at least,” group leader Chrissie Hynde tells Billboard.com. “Even to me it sounds like, why would I want to get on a tour coach and sleep in a bunk with a bunch of guys, but that’s where we feel comfortable. That’s my trade-off for … not having to wait tables.”
However, fans kickin’ around and still deciding whether or not this jaunt is worth seeing, you might want to reconsider the speculation. It seems like retirement might be in the cards. Jeez, what’s the artists lately?
“I can’t think it would be much longer,” she says. “Thirty years seems like already wearing out your welcome in rock’n'roll. But I have no plans, one way or the other. It’s not really the sort of thing you can plan.”
Yikes! Better get on those ticket sales when they’re announced. Speaking of sales, while the tour is still in the cards, the band has a couple of shows planned for December, already. If you can manage to make it to Los Angeles on December 10th, the band plans on hitting up the Wreck the Halls radio concert, in addition to a December 12th show in Portland, OR. Can’t make those? Keep spinnin’ that new record and wait for the dates.
