The Von Bondies plot comeback

While for some, The Von Bondies may be most recognized for frontman Jason Stollsteimer’s altercation with Jack White back in 2004, the Detroit outfit does have one stellar music résumé under its belt as well, and on February 3rd, plans to add to it with the release of Love, Hate, and Then There’s You on Majordomo Records.

Produced by Rick Parker, Peter Katis and Butch Walker, the 12-track follow up to the 2004 garage rock masterpiece, Pawn Shoppe Heart, promises to feature the same friendly rock riffs and catchy hooks that have come to defined The Van Bondies throughout the better part of their decade long existence, but with a “renewed sense of purpose” added in.

“It’s a new band. You don’t want to avoid your history but it is a new direction. It wasn’t on purpose. It’s just where we were going.

The songs are kind of sinister-sounding but there’s this overall lift feeling to them,” he says. “There’s always going to be bad days but hopefully you’re not going to have a cynical person that only remembers the bad. And you need bad days to realize what’s good in life. I try to put that in lyrics.”

Fans won’t have to wait to get a feel for this new direction; Love, Hate, and Then There’s You’s first single has been floating around the web for months, courtesy of a SXSW 2008 video (see below), and will be officially released as a 7″ on November 18th. What’s more, a number of the album’s tracks are also now available as streams via the band’s MySpace page.

Once the full-length release comes around, The Von Bondies plan to spend a majority of 2009 touring North America and Europe in support of their third studio album.

  1. Sinister sounding, with a lift? Interesting. Very excited to hear the rest of this album.
