What I Got? A Sublime reunion?

Either April Fool’s Day has come six months too early or 2009 will indeed be the year of the reunion. In the latest mind-numbing rumor to surface in recent weeks (see: Blur, Genesis, The Jackson 5), Ultimate-Guitar.com is now reporting that Sublime could be reuniting next year. Yes, you read it right, and no, there was not some huge time-space disruption last night that jetted the world back to 1994. Despite the untimely death of frontman Bradley Nowell in 1996, Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh could be resurrecting the legendary ska outfit for a performance at next year’s Bamboozle.

The rumor coincides with a cryptic message on the Bamboozle’s website designed to give a few early hints as to who could be appearing on the 2009 lineup of the New Jersey based festival. Among the names “decoded” include: NOFX, Maroon Five, Gorilla Biscuits, Britney Spears, and Sublime. While the inclusion of the latter obviously casts doubt on the validity of these names, organizers had previously promised something “special,” perhaps in the form of a high-profile reunion, for 2009.

For those quick-witted fans who point to the fact that a performance featuring Wilson and Gaugh would be more in the line of a return of the now deceased Long Beach Dub Allstars, Ultimate-Guitar goes on to report, this particular reunion of the two would indeed be in the form of Sublime with a TBA replacement singer/guitarist filling the void left by Nowell.

  • I know Rome personally as I have worked with him in recent months. This kid is an overweight, homeless WRECK. This reunion will go no where fast with this douche bag on the mic

  • this rome guy sounds nothing like bradley and gives NOOOOO soul to sublime which is the “real situation”, no pun intended. personally myself, i can give sublime 100 times soul and effort than rome, but its who you know in this business, right? i hope sublime picked the right guys for the job….if all else fails…im next in line!!! respect.

  • This guy knows he can never replace Brad no need to bash him. I am looking forward to seeing Bud and Eric playing a full set of Sublime songs since I never got to see Sublime live. When Bid and Eric were in LBDAS they usually played a few Sublime songs live. Saw them at Roseland and it was a great show. This Rome guy seems like a good fit-sounds good. I do kinda think it isnt right to call themselves Sublime without Brad though. Two original members- not exactly a cover band. BTW used to see Badfish in small bars in NY/NJ when they 1st came around- 1st show was a little bar n grill in Teaneck-about 15 people were there-was always a good time-they seemed like good guys-got us some VIP passes and stuff-they really blew up but will b nice to see the real thing (almost)

  • Rome is very good. Sublime fans just wait for new shit. Lots of old tunes at shows.

  • Hey i heard Krist and Dave are forming nirvana with a new singer

    Elyk September 10, 2009 at 7:55 pm

  • i think sublime was an amazing band but they will never ever be the same with our brad and lou. and i think its wack that theyre trying to replace them. but on the pther hand, i think it would be a great show; nothing can put great music down. i will be there

  • SERIOUSLY.
They are also playing smokeout together in California. THIS IS BS. Badfish, I respect, they are a tribute band, Long Beach Dub All Stars, awesome. BUT trying to go off and be SUBLIME again?? FUCK THAT. Seriously, how desperate can they be for money?????? Aren’t they getting the royalties from the songs still?
It’s just ridiculous to wait 13 YEARS to do this. I would’ve had a completely different opinion if it had been back in 97 or 98, you know, keep the band together, live through it. Now, it’s just simply a disgrace. It’s like they are falling back because the other bands they started didn’t go as far, and so they just stuck the world famous name onto to something that is a legacy, that needs to stay a legacy. half the band has past (Brad and Lou Dog). Let them rest assured they can be proud of what was made and don’t let some twenty something-not even from Long Beach- guy take that away for his spot in fame.
If I go to smokeout (for Bad Brains) I will throw tomatoes at this guy!!

  • OK. So this dude is replacing Brad. Ok. Cool. Whatever. But to go out and say SUBLIME IS REUNITING. No way in fucking hell would I pay to see that. UNLESS they change the name. Maybe like Sublime II or whatever the fuck else. But to go out and say that SUBLIME is reuniting just pisses me off. It, to me, seems like a slap in the face to the late Bradley. And I bet Brad rolling in his fuckin grave that they are reuniting SUBLIME. Get the fuck outta here. Change the name. Itll get attention cause it would be with Eric and Bud. All in all the name is what really PISSES ME OFF. Sorry but Im am a big fan and there is no way that I will ever support them without a name change PLAIN AND SIMPLE!

  • dude thats awesome like it wont be the same but still thsts prettty sweet i’d love to see them fersure

    nikkkkkki:] August 30, 2009 at 8:42 pm

  • fuck everbody whos like oww this is gay cuz its not brad its not the same. no fucking shit its not the same any band who losses a singer like brad wont be the same. its not about finding someone who will mimic everything brad did. its about the music the fun and just jamming and they seem to be doin that with the new singer rome.

    Erik July 7, 2009 at 10:17 pm

  • I think we can all agree on the fact that Sublime will never be the same without Brad, but who wouldn’t want to hear that stuff be played again live, even if it isn’t Brad singing? Of course you can’t top his style and original voice, but I would love to see Bud and Eric doing their thing!

    Matt May 24, 2009 at 12:07 am

  • The question is, who is able to take over the part of Brad ? There is merely one voice i can imagine to do this and that´s Dub FX. That is the first voice after Brad, i really thought he would be the right man to fix it.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiInBOVHpO8

Hear the voice and think about.

    Markus May 1, 2009 at 8:28 am

  • Bradley would’ve wanted the music to go on…

    Mikey P April 5, 2009 at 5:06 am

  • When a reporter asked if they were going to split up after the dead, the remaining members stated “When Bradley died, Sublime died”. I believe that to be true, BUT I would still listen to it, beause it may not be better, or close, but it’s still Sublime. I gotta love for tha reggae style music, and music is music no matter who sings it.

Mitch Miller March 31, 2009 at 7:23 am

  • how do some people know who rome is already? ive never heard of him

    Brad G March 10, 2009 at 11:48 pm

  • Well Tom, it’s hard to imagine what Sublime will be without Brad.

    Gary March 5, 2009 at 10:38 pm

  • Sublime is forever to doomed to be one of the most misrepresented bands of all time. The stuff that made it to dvd of them even sucks. Here is one of the few representative clips they should be remembered for: at the end of a now lost VHS.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TokMaNdkEio
Watch that and tell me how Sublime can be ANYTHING without their singer/songwriter/frontman?

    Tom March 4, 2009 at 9:11 pm

  • I agree with you all that it’s not the same without Brad, but just cause it’s not the same doesn’t mean it’s not sick. Has anybody checked this guy Rome out? He’s ridiculous. Amazing voice. Probably better on the guitar than Brad. I was at the re-union show in Reno, and if you guys were there, you’d have a much different perspective. Sublime is back. Ask anybody who has seen them in action, they will tell you the same.

    Andrew March 3, 2009 at 6:38 pm

  • @Chris

Haha did you actually read what you wrote? I mean really? “no sublime without brad? are you guys dumb? almost every sublime album came out after he died…”

You’re an idiot! Ok sure, while that might be true, the person singing in EVERY Sublime song is…wait for it… BRAD!

Check your facts…or at least don’t be such an ignorant ass.

    RasTrent March 3, 2009 at 5:40 pm

  • it was cool to see those two jamming together. But its not Sublime. It was like a tribute get to gether. If they make an album, the band CANNOT be named “Sublime”. As it has been said, without Brad, Sublime does not work. No Cobain=No Nirvana. No Mercury=No Queen. NO NOWELL=NO SUBLIME

    Stan March 3, 2009 at 1:06 am

  • no sublime without brad? are you guys dumb? almost every sublime album came out after he died… i agree it would not be the same but that doesnt mean it would suck. i would love to go see any decent cover band. now if that band had eric and bud in it i would kill to see them. brad could never be replaced, and thats not what they want to do. he will be substituted, NOT REPLACED!!! RIP brad!

    Chris February 26, 2009 at 3:29 pm

  • Hey, Kevin, in case you haven’t noticed, the reunion rumors were actually made up by some ignorant chicken fucking bastard who happens to not know much about Sublime.

And yes, you’re definitely right that Sublime and Brad both died together. If Eric and Bud wanted to start a new band with a new singer and guitarist, it’s gotta not be Sublime because Brad made this band and it died along with him. Period.

    Gary February 20, 2009 at 5:12 pm

  • Why a reunion? Subime and Brad both died together, that’s it. Brad can never be replaced because he’s not only responsible for bringing this band to life, but he’s also responsible for making them one of the most biggest bands here on Earth. If Chris Novoselic and Dave Grohl were to bring Nirvana back together with a replacement for Kurt Cobain, it still wouldn’t be the same as well.

    Kevin February 20, 2009 at 4:55 pm

  • haha thats is hilarious. i could never get into sublime for some reason it just sounded like tweaker country music is the closet i can describe it

g unit kids jackets by nate February 10, 2009 at 11:12 pm

  • I agree to those who don’t want to see Sublime without Brad. Whoever made up these reunion rumors is actually an idiot who doesn’t understand why no one could replace Bradley. And even if Eric and Bud were to bring Sublime back together without him, it certainly better not be that guy from Green Day because Billie Joe is a goon and such a tremendous jerk, and he doesn’t deserve to replace Mr. Nowell. Either the singer of Pepper or Long Beach Dub Allstars may be good enough to replace him, but Billie Joe? No, absolutely not! I hope the person who made up these reunion rumors rots in jail.

    Gary February 5, 2009 at 10:16 pm

  • where do you see badfish playing? i know they will be in ny on may 2 at bb king but no show on the 3rd

    Anonymous February 4, 2009 at 3:50 pm

  • You’re all wrong. Badfish are playing the Bamboozle. Ultimate-Guitar isn’t a reliable source.

    Anonymous February 4, 2009 at 1:12 pm

  • u know like everyone else says no bradley no sublime but he maybe thell be half good but hope its not billy joe armstrong

    subdude February 2, 2009 at 7:21 pm

  • Yes Brad was important but Eric and Bud deserve their due respect, it wouldnt have been “Sublime” without them and it would be awesome just to see the two of them together again. R.I.P. Brad

    Bob January 29, 2009 at 11:23 am

  • No please, don’t do it! Sublime is just not the same without Brad. I just recently read this article on Ultiamte Guitar that said his replacement will be either Billie Joe Armstrong or Dexter Holland. I hope that stupid moron from Green Day doesn’t actually do this because he’s no better than Brad and he has no right to replace him. And even if Dexter were to be Sublime’s new singer, how’s The Offspring gonna go on without him? Believe it or not, you can never replace a talented musician who played in a successful band before his death.

    Matt January 22, 2009 at 6:10 pm

  • Eric and Bud are always right on time. I don’t think it’s going to matter if the Singer is any good or not.. I just imagine everyone in the room singing every fucking word to every fucking song.

And BTW does anyone know where I can find a download for that show that LBDAS did with Born Jamericans.. ?

ok kids... December 31, 2008 at 6:57 pm

  • I’d see sublime without brad for the same reason I’d go see the whalers without bob marley…it’s all about the music..no, it wouldn’t be the same but I’d kill to see a sublime reunion, at least it’s better than some whackass cover band

    Anonymous December 15, 2008 at 8:55 am

  • SUBLIME WITH OUT BRADLEY IS NOT THE SAME. I HERD THAT THE REPLACEMENT WOULD BE THAT FAG BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG. IT BETTER NOT BE HIM CAUSE HE SUCKS BALLS AND IT WOULD E VERY DISRESPECTFUL TO BRADLEYS MEMORY TO REPLACE HIM WITH A FAG LIKE BILLIE JOE.

DONT TRIP December 9, 2008 at 7:26 pm

  • i cant fuckin wait
itll be the shit those guys
    never let down

    megatron December 6, 2008 at 11:28 pm

  • Hey whats the worst thing that could happen, o wait the worst already happened when bradley died, so i guess its worth a shot.

    Zach December 2, 2008 at 9:29 pm

  • i’ll believe it when i see it

    Wacker November 20, 2008 at 2:58 pm

  • He goes by the name Rome. He’s not bad but no Bradley Nowell.

    spark November 19, 2008 at 4:47 pm

  • I’d be willing to give them a chance. Can’t be any worse than Blind Melon, right?

    Ana November 18, 2008 at 2:04 pm

  • its cover bands! badfish is playing, and the high profile reunion was rumored to be get up kids.

    Anonymous November 17, 2008 at 6:35 pm
