Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach readies solo album
Who would think that a member of a two person band would desire to go solo? Probably not many, but Black Keys guitarist and vocalist Dan Auerbach will do just that with the February 10th release of his solo debut, Keep it Hid, via Nonesuch. Recorded in the guitarist’s Akron analog studio, to give it a “live, organic sound,” the album is said to see the Akron native playing a handful of new instruments, including drums and keyboards-and of course-the axe. “Nothing was too plotted or planned, just a lot of spontaneity…This record is a mixture of things I like to listen to, psychedelia, soul music, country harmonies,” explained Auerbach via Rolling Stone.
Though Auerbach engineered and produced the album himself, many of the songs feature help from his family. His father wrote “Whispered Words,” and his uncle adds some of his own guitar work to “Street Walkin”.
The release will be accompanied by a solo trek, though Auerbach will finish a lengthy tour with his main outfit, before hitting the road with Hacienda and Those Darlins early next year. If you can’t make it to any of the listed shows, no worries, The Keys do release their new live DVD Live at the Crystal Ballroom today. In addition, as part of a scientific research project on the laziness of the male sex, the Black Keys are being examined as living proof that two dudes can get a lot of shit done.
