The east coast gets another festival?
With Vineland now officially kaput and All Points West, well, a little disorganized, the once-plentiful docket of east coast music festivals is now a bit lacking. Looking to take advantage of the situation, Madison Square Garden Entertainment has begun work on a bringing a new three-day festival to the state of New York.
MSGE is currently proposing to hold an annual, three-day camping festival on a vast 910 acre lot in East Springfield, New York begining in 2010. In the planning stages since early summer, the proposal is now being reviewed by the county’s planning board, which will hold several workshop sessions over the next few months in order to review several key components, including environmental and transportation issues.
Under the proposal, the festival would evoke a Bonnaroo-like feel, where a performance area and camp
grounds would fill the green farmlands. As for what will be heard during the three-days, MSGE Senior Vice President Don Simpson promises, “contemporary popular music, which is going to be a broad scale.”
While nearby Cooperstown has already voiced its support of the proposal, the ultimate decision rests in the hands of Springfield, one which will be made in the coming weeks.

Awesome! APW was great and fun…seriously - and extremely convenient. However, I’d rather make the trip upstate for something planned out a bit better and less urban.
Got to say though, I do hope they try to keep it artsy and indie (a la Coachella), rather than go big (’Roo), bigger (Lolla) or even bigger (Virgin). Of course, I’m more referring the corporate feel of the even than the attendance numbers. With MSG, I’d be surprised if this thing doesn’t have the Jonas Bros. headlining one night, T-Pain the next and Coldplay the third.
The east coast needs a good, solid festival…sorry Virgin, you just don’t quite cut it.
Springfield, the next Woodstock? Is this already a Simpsons episode?
took long enough
