Third Eye Blind discovers internet, creates new music

Ok, it’s seriously getting to the point where we’re in reunion overload. In just the last week alone, Sublime, The New York Dolls, Faces, and The Get Up Kids have all been in the headlines for some sort of reunion related tid bit. So of course, upon logging onto my computer this morning, what do I see? Non other than a press release for Third Eye Blind’s first new releases in nearly five years.

Alright, so to be fair, the San Francisco outfit has been back together since last year, but only now are the 90 rockers ready to make their return to the “new music section” of your local record store. Early next year, Third Eye Blind will release Ursa Major, the long-awaited follow up to 2003’s Out of the Vein, via Sony Records. As alluded to by frontman Stephen Jenkins’ summertime appearances with the President-elect and the recently revealed first single, “Non-Dairy Creamer”, the band’s fourth full-length effort is expected to be its most politically charged to date.

Speaking of “Non-Dairy Creamer”, the single will also be packaged as part of a two other selections from the forthcoming Ursa Major as part of a new EP designed to give fans a few early tastes and the band an opportunity to “discover their own paradigm.” Entitled Red Star and available beginning today via all online music outlets, the digital only EP will mark Third Eye Blind’s first attempt at reaching the masses strictly through the wonders of the web.

3EB have been inspired by the possibilities and potential that new media provide, and are discovering their own paradigm on how they create and reach people with music.

Talk about innovation!

  1. I’m not sure if this was before, but there was also the reunions of No Doubt, Jane’s Addiction, and Faith No more.
And now also, Offspring is oding there first tour in like 5 years.

  2. Is that “Non-Dairy Creamer” song a joke? I like this band and despite Jenkins’ pompous personality and the band’s overall irrelevancy I hope they turn out a good album next year, but my God this single has some of the worst lyrics I’ve ever heard. I kept having to remind myself that this is November 18, not April 1st. Unbelievable. Good luck fellas

  3. You guys should make something with all the bands that are reuniting this year :)
