The end could be near for Velvet Revolver

The end could be near for Velvet Revolver

Axl Rose has a lot to be smiling about these days. Between tomorrow’s release of Chinese Democracy, the resulting silence of 15+ years of doubters and critics, and the fact that he is delivering everyone in the country a free can of Dr. Pepper, the Guns N’ Roses frontman was already living the good life. The following news just puts the cherry on top.

In a posting appearing on his official fansite, Slash confirmed rumors that surfaced earlier this week reporting that Velvet Revolver has been dropped by record label, RCA. However, the former GNR guitarist went on to note that the news isn’t as bad as it appears: “While it is true that VR is no longer with RCA, the truth is not as negative as the rumor. The band owed RCA money for a third album which at this time they are unable to produce (no singer). The band and RCA parted amicably. When they are recording the new album, it most likely will be for a new label. ”

Still, given the fact that Velvet Revolver has no frontman or label, things aren’t looking good for Axl’s former bandmates. Add in the fact that a search for Scott Weiland’s replacement has essentially evolved into an open casting call, and a sloppy one at that, the California based outfit’s song “Fall to Pieces” is becoming more and more of an appropriate theme song to describe the band’s current state these days.

Perhaps this gives new life to our hope for a GNR reunion? Either that or Slash better hope that new solo album goes well…
