No Doubt chats, plots comeback

Who knew a chat could be so productive, let alone lead to plans for a reunion? But for the members of No Doubt, that’s all it took for the band to discuss and ultimately unveils its plan for a return in 2009. In what essentially is an instant message transcript appearing on the band’s official website, Gwen Stefani, Tony Kanal, Adrian Young, Tom Dumont express their current restlessness and subsequent intentions to release a new album and tour in the near future.

Tom: “I have cabin fever. Maybe we should play some shows or something.”

Tony: “I’m down to play. We need to play. It’s been too long.

Gwen: “I think we should go out now. I don’t think we should wait. Pack up the babies and get a bunch of nannies. So fun! Would be so inspiring to get out there and play all those songs again… I think if we go on tour it will inspire us to write. I need to see the fans out there.”

Tony: “I’ll call management. It’s time to play.”

While No Doubt failed to reveal any specifics, the group has reportedly been in the studio throughout much of 2008, though frontlady Gwen Stefani’s participation has been limited thanks to the recent birth of her second child.

If the four-piece outfit does live up to its promises - and they better, after all, we do now have a transcript to hold them to it - it would be the first new studio album since 2001’s Rock Steady. In 2004, the group took an indefinite hiatus, resulting in various solo endeavors, including two widely successful solo albums from Stefani.
