Robyn Hitchcock’s new “stuffed” record
Earlier this month, our own Matt Melis witnessed the legendary British musician Robyn Hitchcock dazzle musical minds in Pittsburgh. This would prove to be a warm up for his musical aspirations for the near-distant future. Hitchcock recently announced via Yep Roc Records that he will be releasing a new record, his sixteenth original album, on February 17th of next year called
Goodnight Oslo.
The album will feature his longtime collaborators from his Venus 3 project which include REM guitarist Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey, the frontman of Seattle’s, The Young Fresh Fellows. The album however will also feature many prominent musicians ranging from Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, Sean Nelson of Harvey Danger, Morris Windsor of The Soft Boys and native Welsh singer Lianne Francis.
Not to be completely outdone, Paste Magazine tells of former XTC guitarist and frontman Andy Patridge collaborating with Hitchcock on the song “Propellor Time.” Between a soundtrack appearance on the critic’s darling Rachel Getting Married and this newest offering for 2009, it looks like Hitchcock has been making one hell of a comeback. As for the new album, we’ll keep you updated, but be sure those wallets are ready, that is if the economy bounces back in time.
