Fountains of Wayne spills details of new album
When the four Massachusettsians making up Fountains of Wayne announced their 2009 tour last month, we were still in the dark about what their motives for the tour were, if they 
had any at all, and curious about what they’d been working on, if anything at all. Now, thanks to some tips from bassist Adam Schlesinger, we can all relax because Fountains of Wayne has definitely got another album under way.
Of course due to a little bit of poor planning, the new material will most likely not be showcased during their forthcoming U.S. tour kicking off this coming January as planned. Instead, the tour’s major focus will be to serve as a follow-up to Fountains of Wayne’s last record Traffic and Weather.
According to an article on Billboard Schlesinger said:
“We still have a ways to go, but we have eight songs that are relatively close to complete now. We’re looking to regroup after the New Year and do the second batch. I think we’re trying some different things on this record, but we’re still the same band, to me. It’s kind of too early to say what direction it’s going to as a whole.”
Unfortunately, at this moment this is all we know. The new and currently untitled album will include at least 8 tracks and should be released sometime next year, which is so vague it’s not even funny! As far as specifics like theme, intent and purpose go, we’ll just have to give them a bit more time to figure that one out themselves. At least they are still making music, right?

Yes and no. They aren’t technically from there, but Adam Schlesinger lives close by in Montclair, NJ. And they took their name from a lawn ornament store (think S Mart) in Wayne, NJ.
