St. Patty’s Day ‘09: Dropkick unveils Boston dates, The Pogues plan U.S. trek

St. Patty’s Day ‘09: Dropkick unveils Boston dates, The Pogues plan U.S. trek

Alright, we know what you’re saying…”St. Patrick’s Day? I haven’t even gotten through Christmas yet.” But you see, as always seems to be the case on this green-heavy, beer flowing holiday, March 17, 2009 will have quite a few rather impressive musical options to chose from. In fact, when it comes to two of the higher profile Irish influenced punk outfits, The Pogues and Dropkick Murphys, the entire week, let alone month, leading up to the St. Patrick’s Day holiday will be filled with rockin’ sounds. And you just don’t need to be in Boston to get in on the fun.

Following their Christmas obligations overseas, Shane MacGowan and Co., yes at least as far as we can tell Shane will be tagging along, will head over to the states to embark on their annual St. Patty’s Day tour. The fun kicks off March 9th in Atlanta, while Washington, DC will have the honors of playing holiday hosts this year. Tickets go on sale beginning today via Ticketmaster.com.

As we mentioned last weekend, Dropkick Murphys will also be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a North American tour. Only unlike The Pogues, the Boston outfit will cross cross the entire country before finishing in Boston for five shows in five days. Tickets for most North American shows are currently available through the band’s website, while a pre-sale for the Boston shows will begin Saturday, December 13th.
