Live Earth ‘08 scrapped in wake of tragedy
For as much happiness and fun as the Thanksgiving festivities were for many Americans, tragic events like last week’s terrorists attacks in India can thrust life’s sometimes grim reality on us without a seconds notice, while also affecting areas and events we’d never even consider - like a major music festival.
In response to the still ongoing situation in Mumbai, organizers for the second annual Live Earth have decided to scrap the event. Originally scheduled to take place on December 7th, Live Earth India promised to bring the likes of Bon Jovi, Roger Walters, Will.i.Am, and others to the country’s biggest city for a star-studded music event designed to promote climate change. However, as a result of the crisis in the festival’s host city, the event has been canceled.
Due to circumstances far beyond our control, we are saddened to announce that Live Earth India has been cancelled. We will continue to work for solutions to the climate crisis for the good of the people of India and around the world. But for now, our thoughts and our prayers are with the victims of this terrible attack, with the bereaved, with the people of Mumbai and with everyone in India.
As of now, Live Earth India will not be rescheduled. What this means for the future of the concert series as a whole still remains unknown.
