The New Pornos prep for a hectic year
Everyone’s favorite Canadian power pop band The New Pornographers and its handsome “eight” have been busy with nothing but work, work, work, hoping to make 2009 jam packed with some wicked and spiffy new material. It all started with some new solo efforts from a few of the bandmates, but now with the announcement of a new album on the way, next year is already starting to glisten.
As we mentioned before, singer Neko Case has been working on her very own set of country-pop tunes for her next solo album Middle Cyclone, which will hit stores March 3, 2009. And with every day bringing us closer to the New Year, more and more details are being dished out. Middle Cyclone will feature a slew of guests including Garth Hudson, M. Ward and a few members from The New Pornographers as well, all in addition to her very own five piece band!
Included on the follow up to 2006’s Fox Confessor Brings The Flood will be 15 selections: 12 brand new pieces and three covers, highlighted by a renditions of Sparks’ “Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth” and Harry Nilsson’s “Don’t Forget Me”.
Meanwhile, Carl “A.C.” Newman’s second solo album Get Guilty is being finalized as well. The record will also feature an assortment of guest musicians such as Jon Wurster, Mates of State and Nicole Atkins just to name a few, and is expected to hit stores January 20th.
Last but not least, The New Pornographers are finally getting back in the studio to prep their follow-up to last year’s Challengers. With the hefty recording work starting early next year, The New Pornographers are definitely going to have their work cut out for them. Unfortunately at this time, a tentative release date has not yet been issued by the band’s label, Matador Records, and little information exists about the album itself. Be sure to stay tuned for more specifics, as we’ll hopefully be spilling ‘em out in the following months.
