The Appleseed Cast readies new album, tour

For the better part of a year now, Lawrence, Kansas rockers The Appleseed Cast have been working on their seventh full-length studio album, the follow up to 2006’s Peregrine. Come February 17th, the four-piece outfit will unveil the finished product with the release of Sagarmatha through the Militia Group. Recorded and self-produced in their hometown, the nine-track effort is billed as the group’s latest take on “experimental post-rock,” most of which is heavy on the instrumental, an attribuite Christopher Crisici first hinted at in an interview with Captain Obvious last year:

Obvious: When I spoke to you after your show at the Masquerade in Atlanta shortly after the band released Peregrine, you mentioned an instrumental Appleseed Cast EP, is this still in the plans?

Crisci: Well, the idea is still there, although it has morphed into a mostly instrumental full length. There’s songs that have 45 seconds of vocals and 6 minutes of instrumental. There’s songs that are entirely instrumental, and there’s one song with complete vocals that clocks in at about 2:30.

A few demos off Sagarmatha are currently available as streams on the band’s MySpace, while a track off the vinyl version entitled “The New Stage (for so long)” can be purchased for just 99 cents.

Ahead of the album’s release, The Appleseed Cast will embark on a month-long tour beginning in early February.
