Animal Collective gets ahead of itself
Could the anticipation for Animal Collective’s forthcoming Merriweather Post Pavilion (US release 1/20 via Domino) get any more intense!? If you add the fact that the Baltimore natives are already thinking about work on a follow-up to the still-unreleased album, then I guess the answer is yes. That’s right, outdoing Radiohead’s rumored In Rainbows follow-up initiatives and following in the footsteps of one Robert Pollard, Animal Collective will reportedly begin one project before the previous one is even officially released. Talk about your work ethic.
Co-key brains of the outfit David “Avery Tare” Portner (the other being Noah “Panda Bear” Lennox) recently hinted/discussed some minor details about their plans for a new “visual record” with Billboard. “The lines were really blurry when we started. It was going to be a film, like a feature film, but by no means a narrative. It’s more collaborative, between us and our friend Danny Perez, who did one of our music videos.” Apparently Perez’s
visuals for the project have been in the works for more than two years now, and the band will score the whole thing. Avey continued, “This year, we got to a place where we can start doing demos and nailing all the sounds down, while we’re at home. It’s something new for all of us. It’s been a work-as-we-go process.”
I don’t know what the hell Avey Tare is talking about, but I like it. And with no narrative, if it’s anything like what I’m picturing, it’ll come out to be something like Fantasia on a whole mess of hallucinogens, set to the unearthly psychedelic sounds of the good old Animals.
So if all this is true, now we have two things to wait for as opposed to one. I for one am still trying to wrap my head around how insane Merriweather is going to be, and these guys are talking about making movie soundtracks? Jeez. Add in AC’s upcoming winter tour (a more extensive one is planned for the spring) and the recently reported headlining spots at next year’s All Tomorrow’s Parties NY and we’ve got three (or does that count as four?) things to look forward to. Thanks AC, for giving me enough eagerness to last me through the next couple of years.

” (a more extensive one is planned for the spring)”
now that’s exciting.
A movie? Fucking everybody rips off Spice World these days.
Considering they’ve been playing these songs live for over a year and a half, I’m not surprised they are ready to move on. Also, he’s Dave not Daniel.
