Drama on the NIN front…
If there’s one thing that all Nine Inch Nails fans can agree on, it’s that we like it when Trent Reznor is angry. There’s a bite to his angst like no other, and it’s this trademark quality that separates him from the rest. So, when Reznor goes on and blogs online about something that’s been bothering him, we’re likely to flock to it like white on rice. What’s he venting lately? Well, lots apparently.
It seems that any plans for a 3D NIN concert picture has been scrapped. Much like U2 3D earlier this year, Reznor had hoped that his “amazing tour” would have been captured for a 3D release in IMAX,
as well. He even had James Cameron’s production team on hold, but despite this exceptional idea, the entire schlemiel was robbed from even the most elusive frontman, who went on to explain why today:
I made two critical mistakes. One was to approach a certain record company that owns some of the song rights about producing / funding. The second was to allow said company to fuck around as usual for months before saying um… no. We then achieved the impossible by finding alternate production / funding but the timetable is too rushed to get it filmed comfortably with the remaining time left on the tour. This tour and a lot of the personnel involved finish at the end of this leg, so we can’t push filming into Jan / Feb.

The circumstances aren’t too surprising, but they’re definitely disappointing. Reznor really outdid himself this time around, and the shows were living proof of how far he goes with his perfectionism, which might give reason to his latest ranting, in which he boldly stated, “…this was FOR SURE the best show of the year and any bullshit end-of-the-year poll you may read in the next few weeks that says otherwise simply has it wrong.” This might leave a bad taste in some people’s mouths, but as the usual saying goes, “you had to be there to understand.” Having witnessed his weekend closing performance at Lollapalooza this summer, I’d have to concur with Reznor.
And if all this bad news wasn’t enough, Reznor had to throw in this lil’ tidbit out of left field: “The shows we have announced in 2009 and any more that may be announced will be a completely different approach with some different personnel and will likely be the last for the foreseeable future.” What can this mean? A hiatus? Another hibernation for Reznor? One might be surprised at all this, but the man did after all release three albums within the last year or two.
It only makes sense why he’s tired… and cranky.

Yeah I took a 20 hour round trip Greyhound from Calgary to Kelowna through the snow covered Rocky Mountains just to see Trent a Second time on this tour. It was just the most amazing show. And I might consider NIN as maybe a top 5 album band for me. He just steps it up a notch during his LIVE show!!!
It is too bad, it was visually the best tour i ever seen, take that Zoo TV.
There is an alternative universe out there that will be seeing this movie in 3D while listening to the tapeworm album on their ipods. Oh well….
Nothing, its all bullshit– let’s go back to when Tori Amos broke up with Trent and he went into hiatus for a couple of months, what did he do shortly after? Make Fragile (which is probably my least favorite NIN album but a favorite nonetheless)So Dont worry, Trent wont fail us. If anything this will make his upcoming music even BETTER and more angry as he was on Broken! We win in the long run.
wonder what will happen to Year Zero Part 2?
