MSTRKRFT continues fun into 2009
Though a few months later than expected, Toronto rockers MSTRKRFT are still on track to release their long-awaited follow up to 2006’s The Looks early next year. Fist of God is now officially set to hit record stores on March 17th via Dim Mak Records.
Described by Remix Mag as a sinewy and aggressive take on the distorted synth melodies and thick-hipped club beats, Jesse F. Keeler and Al-P’s sophomore album is the result of the band’s desire to make a record “that was more ideologically like a throwback to when rap and R&B production was old school.” Per Billboard:
“The line between that and dance was very blurry,” [Keeler] says. “We knew people were gonna hate, because idiots don’t like music because they like listening to it. They use it as a way of defining who they are. When it changes, it leaves them in a tough spot — ‘I can’t use this to create my identity anymore’ — and their reaction is negative.”
While the album’s tracklist is still forthcoming, it will mark MSTRKRFT first full-length release with Dim Mak; earlier this year, the duo released a maxi single for “Bounce”.
After a short break following two-months straight of touring, which included an appearance at the Fabulous Festival, MSTRKRFT will head back on the road beginning in mid-December for a series of Canadian shows before capping off the year in San Diego with Felix Cartal at the Spin Nightclub.
